An hour ago, I tried to access the files inside the hard drive of my another laptop. I need to wait for authorization to gain access of the files under my username of that hard drive. I suspected there are some problems as I hear some unusual sound from the hard drive and I unplugged the drive from my current laptop. Now that drive seems no longer be detected in Ubuntu live CD. When I tried to connect it to the laptop again, I can hear "deh-deh" but in Computer Management it seems nothing is detected. Please help. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks

How are you connecting this hard drive to the laptop?

Also plug in the hard drive into the PC. then download and install the Crystal Disk info in my signature. Download the standard Installer. And open it up and see if it detects the drive and if its bad or not? If you are using a USB adapter for the hard drive the Deh Deh might it be detecting the USB adapter and not the hard drive. If you hear that sound but Crystal Disk doesn't pick anything up (start the program after you connect the drive) then the hard drive itself is probably bad.

Regarding the 'deh deh', I hear this when I put my hard drive into the adaptar which has already been connected to the laptop. But now the updated news is probably bad as I hear some unusual sound from the hard drive when connected to the laptop. I am not sure if it is known as the clicking sound. I am not sure if the drive is dead. Its so frustrating. I am not sure if it has been crashed before and become unusable only at some point when the drive is read, in this case, when I am waiting for the authorization. Information inside the drive is very important. What services do I need to get back the data, or all my work cannot be retrieved. Your help is much appreciated.

Also when I tried to connect my another external drive it works properly. Data can be read as usual.

I think it is click click click. By crashed in my previous message I mean I am not sure if the drive has been physically crashed. BUT I am also puzzled if this causes the drive death, as the drive can be read two hours ago, and situation goes like this ONLY AFTER I disconnected it from the laptop while I am waiting for the authorization to read the files inside the drive under the usual username. Extremely worried as I don't want to have anything lost inside the drive. I can pay, as long as I can afford, to get back ALL DATA inside the drive. AND of course I prefer to do it myself if there are any tricks I can do.

Well if you were is one trick. Freezing the drive. I know it sounds weird but i have had it work a few times for me long enough to get data off a drive.

They say at least 12 hours but after 2-3 it should be cold enough. Make sure its in a bag though and do this at your own risk! Otherwise taking it to a pro to get it recovered will cost you a few hundred bucks.
