Hi there :)
So I'm inheriting a laptop from a relative - a Pavilion dv6-6b50sa, and it came with Radeon 6490M Graphics. However, now that I am using it, I notice that I am not using the graphics card, and I'm just using the Integrated HD Graphics.

I've checked the Display Adapters under the Device Manager:

Both adapters are enabled.
I've downloaded drivers for it, but it still does not show that I am using the graphics card.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

The Radeon GPU only kicks in when there is a demand for more GPU power (i.e. during gaming). Until then the Intel IGP is used to save power. If you want to be on the Radeon full time, you would have to disable the Intel.

I've tried disabling the Intel - this is what comes up:

How did you go about disabling the Intel? Should have been a setting in the BIOS.

(While not exactly about your model, should be similar)

I did not use the BIOS, actually - I disabled it via the Device Manager.
