Hi everyone, I have an i7 3720QM 2.6ghz, and I wanted to lower its turbo boost from 3.4 to 3.2~3.3 when using 4 cores so that my max temperatures stay below 95 (normal for this machine)
I can change these multipliers from my bios, but I wanted to know what other parameters I need to adjust to not bork my laptop into a non bootable state or cause unresponsive OS incidents.

lowering the turbo multiplier will not make it unbootable because it normally operates at non-turbo multipliers anyway.
If you have the option, reducing the core voltage will reduce temps significantly, but that can make it non-bootable. Make sure you have the option in your bios to recover from failed boot attempts before you play around with it (which means it'll set default values after a failed boot).

My cpu multipliers are as follows:
Active cores:
1 》 36x
2 》 35x
3 》 34x
4 》 34x

Say I lowered the 3 and 4 core multipliers to 33x, will I need to lower the voltage as well??, or do I keep it the same since 1 and 2 core multipliers are not changed?, and what setting can cause my OS to freeze?

update: i lowered the 3 and 4 core multipliers from 34x to 33x, and it caused a couple of OS freezes when the processor started being under load.

Is there another way to lower temperature??, like maybe reduce turbo short power max from 57W to something less??, because i can't change voltages.

LOL, I'm not a permanently online help centre!

Anyhow, you don't need to lower the voltage, I meant it will help in addition to lowering the clocks.

That's weird regarding the freezes. Can you disable turbo?

Try dropping the turbo max.

i can disable turbo with no problems, but which turbo max are you talking about??, Turbo short power max or just Turbo power max?
