if you already have a xbox controller you could use something like this
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2 to connect wirelessly if you do not want to use the usb cables and use the microsoft drivers to make the controller play nice with pc.
in any game which is controller-friendly you should have no issues.
the biggest issues would be games with zero support for analog sticks and zero support for controllers. in such cases you could use xpadder and manually map keys to the controller buttons. the analog stick would be a bit funky since being mapped to wasd it would be an on/off input in different directions instead of variable like an analog stick normally is. but perfectly useable and not the fault of the controller at all (it would be an issue with any controller).
i would suggest making your own profiles and mapping your own keys in game. pick something that works best for you.
