I am asking this because I am planning on get one but I am a bit worried on the 4 GHz speed. And I know how crappy the Intel radiators are.

Does anyone have tested it already? I have no problem with noise so I can set the fan on 100%.

More about : 4790k stock cooler default speed

yes, it good enough for default, or intel wouldn't have sold it.

i disagree with this. I have seen these cpu's throttling with the stock cooler under full load. Intel sold the heatsink with it because it was cheap and then relies on motherboard temp control to throttle the cpu down when it gets too hot. This is also dependant on ambient temperature and case airflow of course.

Would the thing improve if the user forces the cooler fan to always 100%?

the fan shoud automatically go to 100% if needed. but you can set it to 100% if you like. Use a cpu benchmark utility like prime and cpuz and you can see weather or not the stock cooler is working ok for you. A coolermaster hyper tx3 is very cheap and you can be sure it will cool that cpu under full load if you needed extra cooling.

Just confirming something, if you only want to run it at stock speed, why get the K edition cpu made for overclocking? If you do plan on OC later, spend the extra now and get a hyper 212 if it will fit in your case.

The K version is 4.00 GHz while the non-K version is 3.50 GHz.

Odd.

ah yes, in the past there has been only .1ghz diff between K and non k edition, the main difference being an unlocked multiplier. This new cpu is .4ghz difference.

To be perfectly honest I am going to say no, especially if you over-clock. I just put a machine together with an i7-4790K and just sitting idle over-night my max temp. (using Core Temp) hit 76°C (maybe Windows 8.1 updated or something). I am going to purchase a water cooler today so I can actually attempt to run a burn-in program for my new machine. I tried to run Prime95 but my processor instantly hit 95°C on the stock cooler. Needless to say, I shut it down within 10 seconds, lol.

If it hit 76 on idle something is wrong with your setup.

Oh, and start a new thread if you have question.
