UPDATE 3 8/8/14: Just one last thing. In my screenshot, you can see that my Frequency displays 1400 MHz. This happens from time to time, I can confirm that my frequency is indeed 4600 Mhz. That should be it for updates.

UPDATE 2 8/14/14; Just a reminder that those temps were taken after about 20 minutes of running Prime95 small FFT's test. Thanks again.

UPDATE 8/14/14: Thank you everyone for your responses! It truly means a lot. Anyway, I'll post the link to my screenshot here: http://i.imgur.com/1UeS179.png As you can see, I oveclocked my CPU to 4.6 at a massive 1.51 volts!!! I've noticed something very unique about my chip; It requires more voltage to stabilize an overclock, but this voltage doesn't create nearly as much heat as it should, say, on a "normal" chip. Anyway, thanks again, and keep the comments coming.

UPDATE: Using the H110, I get extremely low temps on my FX-8320. Running Prime95 for around 20 minutes yields temps of around 41 degrees Celsius.

Hello everyone, I recently put together my fist gaming rig and have been working a bit on my FX-8320 overclock. So far, i've gotten it up to 4.4 GHz at 1.42 volts. Keep in mind that this is on the H110 Cooler. I am using the Gigabyte 990FXa UD3 motherboard Rev. 4. I have turned High Performance Computing on and have turned Cool and quiet mode off. I also overclocked the North Bridge to 2400 Mhz. My goal is to get this CPU up to 4.8 GHz, or higher, but for some reason if I go any higher than 4.4, the CPU locks up after about 20 minutes of Prime 95, and sometimes just during normal use. Everything is just fine at 4.4. Can someone help? Much appreciated.

I get around 41 degrees Celcius running the H110.

I ran Prime95 for about 10 minutes on small FFT's, and the temps wouldn't go above 49 degrees Celsius. The H110 is amazing!

That's better than any reviewed temps I've seen with that processor and cooler. I'd think maybe you're looking at the wrong temp, getting an incorrect monitor reading or you won the silicone lottery and just happened to have found one of those really, really good wafers.

I sure hope so. I'm using CPUID HWMonitor to monitor my temps. Is this program accurate?

Some like it. Personally, on a recommendation of a senior moderator here I've been using HWinfo located at the following link and I mostly just check run sensors when the program opens and I use that but it has a lot of other features in the main and summary windows as well. For monitoring, sensors is all you need and can just check that when it asks. There will be several temps listed so if possible post a screenshot of the cpu related temps in sensors.

Either way, it doesn't seem right. At 100% load, overclocked to 4.4, I've never seen any standard cooling solution that would keep either the core or package at 49c. I read an experiment by Woody over at DSL reports where he undervolted the 8320 and ended up with 1.116V & 17.5 multiplier @3.5Ghz which ran at 40c at 100% load with a stock cooler, but that's with an extremely undervolted cpu. I can't imagine a 32nm cpu at 1.42V running 40c with almost a full Ghz overclock. Craziness.

what is ambient temperature?

im hitting ~ 55 core / 68 socket 4.5 @1.4-1.42v with antec kühler 1250 (ambient is 25-30c) need to test again when it gets "cooler"

and just for fun, i tested the cpu @ 1.15v @ 3.5ghz and temperatures were 33 core 40-42c socket (ambient was again ~25c)

That is crazy, if the temps I'm getting are accurate... I mean is that even possible? Even if I got a really great processor... Would those temps even be possible?

About 69 degrees farenheit. My system runs at a cool 31 degrees celcius at full load thanks to my 7 fans. Is 49 degrees realistic? And if so how high could I get my overclock?

it could be yeah (since your ambient/room temperature is only 20c) and cause you have one of the best AIO coolers available.

No one can tell you how high OC you can achieve, every chip is different.

could you post a screenshot of hwmonitor after running prime95 smallfft for 10-15 mins?

Actually, I'd like to see it WHILE running it. After is too late as it only takes milliseconds for the temp to change once the load is gone, as I'm sure you know.
