Hi I'm your average pc gamer I currently have a amd 965 black cpu and im curious if I should upgrade my motherboard to a Asus Crosshair V for 220 $or go with a overhaul with a 4690k and a msi gaming 5 motherboard for 320 $ Thanks

To be honest you wouldn't need the 4690K as you will then have to buy another CPU fan. So probably a 4770K and a Z97-A or Maximus will do the trick. :)

You're better off spending more on the GPU for a more significant improvement in games.

Note that crossfire is pretty buggy, drivers and compatibility with games are cranky too. Furthermore, you have to deal with high temps, and you'll need a more powerful PSU. I recommend a stronger single GPU such as the GTX 780. The GTX 780 will max out all games anyway.

But if you do decide on crossfire, you basically need
> 2 PCIe 16x slots ( both can run in 8x mode )
> decent 800+ watt PSU

Most, or all Z97 motherboards have 2 PCIe 16x slots. But some have better quality parts to allow further OC. The MSI Gaming 5 is a great choice, and should allow you to OC quite a fair bit, but a cheaper option would be the Asrock Z97 Extreme 4

T is good if you will plan to do a crossfire. But a SLI then go with a cheaper and still great quality and renown ASUS Maximus VI or VII.

Asus' ROG motherboards are perfect, but expensive...

Looks like I made a decision that the Rog Maximus VII Hero with a 4690k is worth picking up the extra shifts Thanks!
