Hi,
Hi,

My problem is as follows...

Approximately 5-year old pc, has been working fine but after a change of location, has now stopped booting.

Initially, it would run for a millisecond when power button turned on, but after much reading of forum threads and trial/elimination, I discovered that removing the ATX12v 4-pin connector, the power would remain on for approximately 10 seconds. The fans ran etc, but still no proper boot.

I have read in various forums that I should do the following:

1. Replace the motherboard
2. Replace the CPU
3. Replace the PSU
etc, etc...

I am hoping that there may be others within this forum who have some idea ass to how to work out what is the best course of action from the point I am at now.

AS the computer will currently not boot, it is difficult to list the exact components, but if needed, I will do my best to work out a list. However, from my reading, it seems to happen to a wide array of brands and varying systems.

If anyone can offer any assistance, it will be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

James

Try to do the paperclip test on your PSU.

@ dovah-chan

I tried the paper clip test on my PSU, following this guide [ http://www.wikihow.com/Check-a-Power-Supply ] to number 7 and the fans do turn on.

However, they only run for roughly ten seconds and then shut down.

Do you have any other ideas at all?

Thank you for your advice.

Sounds similar to what is happening to your CPU EPS connector. I would say that a new PSU would help. I'd recommend a Seasonic SSR-450RM. The G series is so under-appreciated for some reason but its a great line of PSUs. Seasonic themselves are a wonderful manufacturer that do not disappoint in quality.

I just re-read your post and now I realize that you said you moved it. Did you turn off your computer properly then flip the switch on the PSU and then unplug it? That might be what did it in.
