Hello! I bought a second monitor a couple of weeks ago, my main monitor uses DVI, and I wanted to use VGA on my second monitor but that didnt work for some reason. Luckily I found an extra DVI Cable lying around and used that one, and it worked? So currently both my monitors are connected via DVI cable to my pc. Now I have a third monitor and its still not working with VGA, Im wondering, do I have to get a DVI Adapter or whats the problem here?

Incase this is important , my graphic card is AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series (not sure which specific one)

Thank you!

Not sure if this is what you Mean i7Baby, but on the back of my pc I have 3 different DVI ports, and one VGA port.

You must connect all of the displays to the graphics card, otherwise it won't work:

Judging by the picture, I got both my current monitors at the bottom side of the pc, both DVI. "add in cards" as the picture says. I also have 1 DVI port and 1 VGA port at the top side of the pc " Motherboard connections?"

Does that mean my pc is only capable of having 2 monitors, if so. what are the other ports for?

P.S. Sorry first time on Tomshardware so I have no idea how to properly reply and format texting etc.

If you don't have other ports on the back of the the graphics card ("add-in graphics card" in the picture), you can only connect 2 monitors.

So what are the other ports for? and I guess IM gonna have to use a HADMI cable for the third monitor then?

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood you. The other ports on the graphics card can also be used for monitors, so you can connect a third display through HDMI if you have that on your card.

The other ports, from the motherboard, are for 'integrated' graphics - from the cpu. You can use one or the other. Not both at once.

Which one is generally better to use, is there any real difference?

The graphics from the card is much much better than from the cpu.

Not really. Just both pitching in. Both doing multiple threads at the same time.
