Hi, all. I own a macbook pro 2.26 mid-2009. Lately it runs really slow on everything I do. I noticed that one memory slot is out of order. I assume that is either a broken logic board or a broken memory stick. I need a quick fix, so in any case I decided to buy a new 4GB memory stick of 4Gb and replace the one in the running memory slot/bank. I will leave the memory stick of the other slot as it is. Does anybody have any idea if this is going to work?
Thanks a lot

If you haven't been getting any errors it's more likely the slot than the board. Try the other memory module in the other slot and see if it is recognized and works. If it doesn't it's probably the board in which case you can put it back where it was and use it until you get another board. If it does work it's probably the module and you need a replacement. Make sure both modules are firmly seated. Sometimes a module that was initially not seated all the way will still work for a period of time but will eventually begin to lose connection to the socket due to surface corrosion of the pins. That's unlikely, but it's been seen to happen a time or three.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I don't usually get error messages beside often kernel panics plus the multicolor wheel all the time... I will switch the memory sticks to test them as soon as I get the proper screwdriver set. In case that the one slot is damaged (which I think is the most possible) can I upgrade the memory of the working slot to 4GB (now I use 2X1GB) so I can use more memory?
