How to wipe clean or re format hdd

I've tried both dban and arch linux and neither seem to want to clean out my hard drive. They just hang at the same spot.. I'm selling my computer and all I want on it when I sell it is windows 7 and drivers for my mobo gpu etc. I've been having extreme difficulties with this and I'm about to sell the comouter with no hard drive and let it be their problem.

If all you want to do is clean the hard drive, install it in another comuter (just this drive) and run DBAN.
If DBAN can't access the drive in this computer, you probably have a hardware fault in the HDD or SATA controller.
