Is 500w Power Supply Enough For This Rig... ??

Hey guys I'm upgrading a few of my parts ( GPU,CPU,motherboard,case) and was wondering if my 500w power supply is enough to run them..

Here's my rig:

Motherboard: Z97 motherboard (New part)
CPU: Intel core i7 4790k (New Part) [Previously an AMD FX 4100]
GPU: nVidia GTX 780 6gb (New Part) [Previously an AMD Radeon 7800 Series]
Ram: 16gb ddr3 ( I'm 85% sure it's ddr3) (From my old PC)
Hardrive: 1TB HDD (From my old PC)
Power supply: 500w
OS: windows 7 ( I know this doesn't consume power but I thought it would be helpful to fully detail everything.) (From my old PC)
Case: Zalman Z11 plus (New Part)

EXTRA PERIPHERALS:
DVD/CD drive (from my old PC)
LED lights (from my old PC)
3 fans (from my old PC)

I see you are buying a K processor. Are you going to overclock?

For those specs and a GTX 780 , no , 500w is not enough.

You want at least a solid 650w power supply.

You need a new PSU even without overclocking.

A GeForce GTX 780 needs 42 amps on the 12v+ rail and a 600 watt power supply minimum , with 2 - 6+2 PCIE power connections.

I highly doubt overclocking is going to use 100 more watts, the recommended psu for a 780 ti is 600 or 650W, so a 780 6gb should roughly be the same

GTX 780 = 250w
OC'd i7 = 110w
other +12v stuff = 50w max

that's 34a on the +12v rail, so a PSU with 42 amps on the +12v rails and two 6+2 power connectors sounds spot on, just as blackbird said

It depends on how extreme people want to go. Between the CPU and GPU, an extra 100W should be quite achievable. On an AMD build, the CPU alone could eat that.

That is for the CPU only. Also keep in mind that not all CPUs overclock the same, both in terms of max achievable clocks and the amount of power they use to get there. The 100W on the CPU alone part was specific about being about AMD's CPUs - namely, how OC'd FX83xx go from ~100W stock to ~200W when people try to get them to 5GHz like the FX9xxx chips do.

Overclock the GPU and you can get another ~60W, again with the caveat that not all cards OC the same.

Agreed, if you can spend $400+ on the rest of the upgrade then you need to spend $80 on a good quality PSU

I'd totally get the 750w you linked if I wasn't getting everything from Amazon lol I'm in Ireland so I'm only buying overseas because of the exchange rate and sadly newegg don't ship here.

+ plus it would cost more in shipping.

If your putting together a quality build like yours , you want it to have great reliable \ stable power.

The PSU is the last place you should go cheap on.

Find at least a high quality 650w.
