my motherboard p35-ds3l rev 2.0 seems to have devolped a problem with the ram slots
it seems only one works heres what happens when i try using other slots

slot one and two show no video on screen when using these slots
slot three gives loud beeps
slot four when used alone works perfect
i have no idea whats wrong with it but the max ram per slot is 2gb and at the moment im running my system on just 1gb and was wondering if playing games at maybe 720p would be ok heres my spec

e8200 6mb l2 2.66ghz( will oc to 3ghz easily )
1gb ddr2 ( going to buy a single 2gb stick)
gts450 1gb gddr5
500w power supply
320gb sata

p35-ds3l rev 2.0 board

i dont hope to play the most demanding games but i want to play cods, gta v when it comes out, just cause 2,mafia 2,euro truck sim 2 and few other driving games

Your motherboard manual will tell you what slots you can use for 1 stick, 2 stick and 4 stick configurations. Dont have the manual, google it and download it because you should have it.

Have you tried moving ram to different slots? You could have a bad stick of ram instead of a bad motherboard with a bad memory slot.

I would look at the cost of 2gb ddr2 vs the cost of an upgrade. Obviously an upgrade will cost more, but even a sub $100 cpu will be more powerfull then that Core2Duo

yes i have 2 1gb matching ddr2 sticks and have tried both in all sockets ,,,, only slot 4 works when one stick alone is placed in slot and both work individually in slot 4 but when i try for example ... slot 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 together it doesnt work and i am going to upgrade the cpu to q9300 in the next month as its only like 30 gbp on ebay

Ok, then you have a bad motherboard.
The reason why it only works with one stick in slot 4 is because that is the way the board is designed. There is only 1 slot of of the 4 you can use for single stick configuratin, and only 2 you can use for dual stick conciguraiton, then obviously you use all 4 slots for 4 stick configuraiton.

Since the problem is that your motherboard is bad and it is likely that something else will go bad on it eventually I would not sink any more moeny into it. You are on lga-775 socket and ddr2 memory which is highly outdated, hell should be able to get 4gb ddr3 for cheaper then 2gb ddr2.
I would save up money and upgrade the mobo/cpu/ram to modern parts, I realize that will require saving for a good period of time and not being able to game very much at all but at this point putting money into your current setup is a huge waste.
