Processor - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black edition (3.4ghz)
Graphics Card - AMD Radeon Sapphire R9 270X 4GB OC edition
RAM - 2x 4gb(8gb) PNY DDR3
Power Supply - 850watt EVGA SuperNOVA G2
Motherboard - GIGABYTE MA785GMT-UD2H

Im planing on upgrading my mobo and cpu in the next few months to a newer one and i didnt know if i should go with an APU or FX processor

(I got my mobo late 2010 and the CPU came out in 2009)

I know my CPU is fine and is still kicking fine but in the newer games i think its going to become a bottle neck for me.
Thank you :)

( i do want to stay with AMD on my build unless theres a good intel out there for the same price that gets the same preformance)

More about : amd apus

Since you have a dedicated graphics card, the FX lineup would definitely be better for you. I recommend the 8320/8350, your current CPU is about equivalent to the 4000 series FX processors so I would avoid them seeing as to how the performance difference is not worth it.

I Would Personally go with the FX esp if You are doing any kind of Gaming. Your R9 270X will be more than adequate to Run any games on high settings.

The FM2+ socket would be a sidegrade for you, unless you can go FX-6300 + OC or FX-8xxx then it wouldn't be worth it. Can't you just OC your 965 for now?

I see little value in changing out your motherboard in favor of either a apu or FX.
Your funds are better spent on a stronger graphics card for gaming.
The APU is a relatively good processor + graphics combo, but you are paying for the graphics capability.
Once you add a discrete card, you have wasted that capability.
On the FX side, you can get 6 and 8 cores. But few games can use more than 2-3 cores.
Your X4-965 is still relatively good. See if you can't OC it a bit to extend the life.
Here are some comparisons which include the x4 and fx 6 and 8 core chips

If you wish to stick with amd, wait until they introduce a architecture that results in faster individual core processing speed. My thought is that if you contemplate a motherboard change, that is the optimum time to think about a faster intel quad.

I have thought about it but i have the stock cooler with it and underload is runs around 60degrees celsius. How far do you think i can push it?

An aftermarket cooler is significantly cheaper than a new mobo + cpu. Just sayin :D

trueeee well the cooler it came with was a cooler master cooler the hottest ive seen my cpu go was 65 from rendering a thing in after effects ran solid at 100% for about 10 or 12 hours and never went over 65

think it could hold up to alittle overclocking?

I wouldn't touch the voltages, I think 62 degrees is about as hot as I would run an AMD chip and a voltage change will bring the heat
