Hey all,

I'm looking to replace my motherboard as it has issues with my cpu.

To keep it short. I have an FX 6300. Setting the boost option to 4.1ghz in the bios results in BSOD atleast once every 2 days or so or even every day. I'm assuming the VRM on my MB is absolute rubbish.

Would purchasing a new motherboard be worth the money, or should I just set my boost to 3.8ghz; as it does not BSOD at this frequency.

Will I gain any performance at all by switching to a higher end motherboard?

Please let me know, thanks!

My curent motherboard is http://www.msi.com/product/mb/760GMP23_FX.html#hero-overview

I'm looking at buying this http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97_EVO/

My system is FX 6300 + DDR3 1333 + R9 280X

Solution
It should be able to handle 4.1ghz as thats its turbo. You may have to get a New board, that MSI board is pretty weak when it comes to the new FX series.

Thanks, in what way do you mean weak? Performance wise?

Not really performance wise, but how it handles the power delivery to the CPU, when the CPU turbo's to 4.1ghz it raises its volts to make sure its stable and that board just doesn't cut it for the 6 core. Also there is slight performance increase with the 9xx series chipsets, so you may even see a performance boost.
