Hello guys,I recently decided to upgrade my really old pc (2007) and I have some questions. So far I've put 12 GB 1333 Ram on it and this card: Gigabyte AMD Radeon R7 260X Rev 2.0 (2GB, DDR5, 128bit). However, my budget is kinda low right now (around 150 euros) and I have enough money for either an AMD FX-8320 CPU (140 euros on my local store) or an Intel Core i3-4150 3.50G (130 euros). I mostly want this computer for gaming, I'm a huge fan of old games as well like Call of Duty, Company of Heroes, as well as new ones like Rome total war 2, Company of Heroes 2, Assassin's Creed 4 and such. I'll also use it to Skype and surf the net but that's basically it. Any ideas which CPU to get please would be appreciated.

If you plan to upgrade, then most likely it'd be Intel as the FX series hasn't been updated since a year. The socket's future look questionable. On the other hand the MoBo required to run i3 4th gen, the H87/97 or Z87/97, out of them the Z/H97 specifically, will run the Broadwell due to arrive this fall. So one less thing to upgrade next year would be your MoBo if you buy a 97 series H/Z MoBo now.
Get the i3. You'll be happy with its single core performance which most games, not only old, even new ones require. Its a solid CPU with hyperthreading so no problem with multitasking or CPU intensive tasks as well.

You've good amount of RAM and fairly powerful GPU, so the i3 would compliment those very well :)

Well thats tough the 8320 is quite a bit more powerful than the i3 but then your stuck with an amd mobo if you ever plan to upgrade to a new i5 or i7 your gonna have to buy a new intel mobo. So if you dont plan to upgrade for a long time i would go with the fx 8320.

get the 8320, at this time and age it would be dumb to get a dual core cpu since more games are steadily using more cores. the i3 has more single threaded performance but since the 8320 has 8 integer cores it would handily beat the i3. and since you already have a discrete gpu solution, you'd be wasting a bit of cash on the integrated GPU
edit: just searched for benchmarks and the 8320 is a lot faster than the i3 and the 8320 actually competes with the i5 series of processors. The ONLY drawback for the 8320 is the power consumption and if you plan to upgrade soon to an i5 or an i7 series processor you'd be better off with the i3 solution

Hey Dun, I don't mind about that since I will upgrade my PC again next year with more powerful features like a GTX titan card and such. I just want a temporary build until next summer to keep me covered with those old games I mentioned (Company of Heroes, Skyrim, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft) as well as new ones such as Guild wars 2 or Assassin's Creed so I don't lag like an idiot when I open them :D. I've heard that this AMD CPU has more cores and such so I guess it should be better when it comes to gaming (dunno much about pc hardware).

Hey Meteors, I haven't bought a motherboard yet since I don't know which CPU is better so I can get its motherboard. I only have the GPU right now. So you think that this i3 processor will run games like company of heroes 2 - assassin's creed 4 smoothly? Or will that AMD CPU will do better?

Thanks for your help Meteors. Just an update: Found this CPU at a really good price in my area "Intel Core i5-3340" (1155, 3.1GHz, 6MB). Will it suit an H97 motherboard and is it better than the i3 and the amd ones?

Sadly, that CPU uses an older chipset and is not compatible with either H87/97 or Z87/97 MoBos, meaning you'll have to change your MoBo again next year. This's 3rd gen processor and currently its 4th gen of Intel processors. 5th gen will support 4th gen chipsets but not 3rd gen.
If you plan to buy a high end PC, with cards of the Titan Range, then you'll definitely want a Broadwell as your CPU, which isn't supported by 3rd gen chipset MoBos.
Also, in terms of performance, its at par with the FX8320 and slightly lower than i3, because of lower clock speed and since i3's hyperthreads act as individual cores. That is, i3 4th gen is like 4 cores' performance in 2 physical cores.
