I have read that you can use Virtualbox on Linux, which will effectively get me to use Linux more often and i can start tweaking Linux more with using Windows 7 at the same time on the same machine. I can do this easily on my gaming PC but i only really use my gaming PC for, well.. my gaming PC. I run my other desktop quite often and if something were to go wrong with that PC, i can always resort to my gaming desktop (or my laptop).

Anyway so i am looking to upgrade my older desktop because i will be using that for Linux and Windows which will need some extra system requirements. Currently my setup is this - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01... (Ram is currently at 3GB)

And this one as well:

But will upgrading that PC's CPU work for this setup or should i just get a new media PC? Let me know the minimum system requirements and the ideal requirements (for speed). Thanks in advance :)

Win7 and Linux via Virtualbox will be fine on that motherboard and an Athlon64 x2 cpu.

Easy to tweak VBox to get it happily running with the resources you have at hand.

I would have W7 sitting on a SSD for performance, but put the VBox O/S images on a HDD for storage capacity and set them to static.
