Want to extend my internet to another building?

Hello,

My property consists of 2 buildings, I currently have internet in the smaller building which is 20 meters away from the other building. I have a BT Infinity hub and some sort of white box with a LAN and DSL port. How can I extend the internet to the other house? Would rolling a 20 meter CAT5 cable to a wireless router work?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the speedy reply, what will I need to purchase other than the Cat5 in order for it to work?

If putting down a cat5e cable is do-able depending on a number of factors (e.g. you have a conduit between buildings, or otherwise protected from outdoors, etc...), that would be your option that will give you the most consistent access. Under perfect conditions the maximum run for ethernet should be under 100 meters, so 20 meters should be fine. Another, easier, option would be to use a wireless bridge if you can keep them at the closest points between each building. A lot of consumer routers have a wireless bridge option built in, but you'd want to research the specs before purchasing. 20 meters may be towards the limit of a consistent wireless signal depending on what kind of building material stands in between the two devices. In that case, you could also go with something more enterprise grade like an outdoor mounted wireless device. Start simple and then work your way up to the more complex solutions.
