I am building this for my neighbor. He already has a nice Samsung monitor, a keyboard, a mouse, and decent speakers. He needs to upgrade because his computer is from about 2004 and he is unable to do some of the things he needs to in Windows XP. There are a ton of compatibility issues with this OS these days. His only requirements are the ability to play some flight sims (not super resource hungry games), light photo work, and browsing the internet. He requested a quad core, USB 3.0, an HDMI out, and 1 TB of HDD space. I have an unused key for Windows 8 that I am going to give him. He also has a fairly new optical drive in his current PC that will be reusing.
Before you tell me he needs a dedicated GPU, look up the Kaveri APU and gaming on Youtube. It will more than handle the stuff he wants to do. I think the only game he even wants to play is War Thunder. It doesn't need much. The reason I chose 2400mhz DDR3 is to better utilize the APU's R7 graphics. He doesn't care about running the latest and greatest at max specs.
That all said, I just need someone with some experience to look this over and make sure I am not under or over spending in any particular area. Tips or suggestions are appreciated.
EDIT: A thought: Is there RAM that is cheaper and easily overclocks to 2400mhz? I know that's probably not likely but I thought I'd ask. AMD sells "gaming RAM" under their brand that is supposed to be for using their APUs. Is that RAM any more worth it or better for some reason in this application?
