AMD A10-7800 laptop running at 100 C?

Hello!

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite L50D-B from Futureshop running an AMD "K15" according to Speccy and HWMonitor, or an AMD A10-7800 according to the official specs.

However, upon installing HWMonitor, I noticed my "package" temperature was no less than 94 C on a consistent basis, and more often than not hits over 100 C. Is this simply a bad temperature reading? I've attempted to find drivers for it, I installed AMD Catalyst, etc.

Can someone help me resolve this? Should I simply send it back for a refund? I still have eight days left on my bill.

Solution
AMD OverDrive may give you the appropriate *thermal margin* of your CPU

HWMonitor on occasion can get behind on newly released stuff and is likely unreliable in this instance.

I see! I'll try installing it and let you know. However, both Speccy and HWMonitor gave the same readings. Is there a way to change that?

My thermal margin is hovering around 18-23 degrees Celsius. What does this mean? I heard this is how much hotter my CPU can get before being above what it can handle.

What would the real temperature of my CPU be like right now?

It means you have 18-23C of 'thermal headroom' before the cores may start to throttle (to reduce temps) -- that looks good and is typical.

The CPU cores and UNB are highly efficient and are not typically the main driver of your temps -- the big temp driver would be your GCN graphic cores which make up half the die.

I have no idea what the 'real' temp would be :)

Thank you, that helps a lot! I wish I could find the real max operating temperature though. Oh well! It's all solved and fine. Thank you! :)
