Can Msi R9 280x get past 60Hz on 144Hz monitor

Hey I've read online that hdmi will not go past 60Hz and my monitor is the asus vg248qe which is a 144Hz monitor, I have the msi r9 280x and I heard that I need to dual link dvi to get past 60Hz. So how would I go about doing this. I'm new to the whole 61+Hz thing lol. Please help

Short and simple, you are correct that an HDMI cable can not go above 60Hz. If you have a 144Hz monitor then use dual DVI or a Display port cable.

I do have a 144Hz monitor I just don't know how I'd set up a dual dvi or display ports to get results above 60hz. I'm new to this. Please help.

Use any one of these cords instead of an HDMI cord and you will have full access to your 144Hz. Just plug either one into the back of your GPU (Same place you would plug in an HDMI cord, just different slot).

The VG248QE comes with a dual DVI cable, the 280X has a DVI output...why use HDMI?
