Im thinking of upgrading my current i7 970 rig to a better system. I found a used/new setup with the Xeon E5-2696 v2 (bus bumped up, so its basically 3.0ghz per core) with O.C GTX780 card, which is super for my day work tasks, but i love gaming aswell. :)

Usage:
- Cinema 4D (3D app)
- After effects
- Nuke
- Realflow
- Counter strike global offensive
- ARMA3
- BF4

Anyone know how 12 cores will perform in games? I dont find any games benchmark.

Any help/thoughts is appreciated!

Thanks for the replies. I need a lot of cores for the rendering, but i had a hope it would be good in gaming aswell. If i had to buy a gaming pc aswell, it would kill my budget, and my wife.. say no more. So games with multiple cores have a limitation, god damnit.

I wish there was a benchmark of games with this processor or similar.

If you meant the 2697 v2 then it performs about aswell as an ivy bridge i5/i7. (i5 33xx - 35xx i7 37xx+)

ah i see. Well the 2697 is clocked at 2.7, while the 2696 is clocked 2.5, but the bus is bumped up so it equals 3.0ghz. At least that's what he told me.

Take a look at this:

and this:

The fx8350 (8 cores) is at par or below i5 cpus, if any game used more than 4 cores the fx8350 would offer superior performance, now, with 12 cores its going to be the same than any i7, there is just no need of benchmarking it.

Thanks for the explanation. I guess 3.0Ghz is the numbers to look at in tests.
