I'm just wondering if the fx 8350 is still worth buying in September of 2014 since it will be getting quite old now. If its not then I will probably be going with an Intel build

More about : amd 8350 intel build

Only if you're doing something that makes good use of 8 cores on a limited budget. (i.e. not gaming)

I have an fx8350 and it's wonderful. For the price I paid it's powerful without being too taxing and eight cores is damn nice. If you're saving cash I would recommend it highly. Remember that for your gaming build you should prioritize a GPU over a CPU. As games are generally a lot more GPU intensive - and your CPU will need to be replaced a lot less. So for a budget build I would without hesitation recommend the fx8350.

But these guys are right - if you have the money to spare - go for an intel build - a high end i5.

It really depends on two things in todays market:
1) Are you ONLY gaming (no Streaming, recording)
2) Is the 8350 wayyyyy cheaper than the i5?

Point 1) Rumour has it the i5 can be a bit stuttery in streaming certain games (feel free to debunk this, but I went i7 because i want it for many things)
Point 2) the 8350 in the UK is on par with the i5 4690k and the i5 is newer, the mobo's are cheaper and you can have faster ram (I think my 8350 sabertooth was 1866 max maybe 2133 tops) and imo the mobo's for intel are way sexier!!!

Source - I had a 8350 and it was a fine little CPU for most purposes, but it is showing it's age for certain things I use it for. I now own the 4790k/Hero Z97
