USB 3.0 Not Working

I have a homemade rig with an Asrock 970 Extreme3 mobo which has USB 3.0 ports on the back. The chipset uses an Etron USB Host controller for these (evidently). I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

My issues is that the USB 3.0 ports do not work. All of the other 2.0 ports work perfectly. Devices like my Xbox 360 controller light up when plugged in to the 3.0's, but then become non-responsive.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest drivers from the Asrock web page for the USB 3.0 device as well as doing the same from Etron's web page. I have also tried the original drivers that came with the motherboard. I checked the version of the BIOS and my BIOS is currently at 1.6 which updated for compatibility with USB devices.

I would try updating to the latest BIOS version of 1.8 but I get this neat little message saying that the PI is incompatible and something about frying my mobo so I don't think that is an option.

Also, USB 3.0 is enabled in the BIOS. I have tried both with and without legacy to no avail. Please help!

Definitely an issue. Any USB device should work on 3.0 ports. It seems that your usb3 controller does not work properly for some reason. Maybe there is something wrong with it or driver, or maybe it is BIOS fault. Hard to tell. It is also hard to tell how fixable it is. One of possibilities may be to RMA the board and see if another one fares better.

First, I haven't thanked you for your prompt responses, so thank you. Second, I uninstalled the driver, restarted the computer, then attempted to allow it to update automatically but it said "No Driver Found". I then manually directed it to the downloaded driver from the webpage and it reinstalled the driver and now the USB recognizes some devices, but not others. This is about the third time I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver with different results each time. The USB 3.0 recognizes things like my webcam and a flash drive, but will not recognize things like an Xbox 360 controller or my mouse. The reason I wanted these ports was to be able to play 4-player local coop games on my computer. With my devices all plugged in, the 3.0 slots were the only ones left available. As it stands, I can just rearrange them to make sure I can plug 4 controllers in, but I still think it is strange that things like the controller or mouse do not work. Is this normal or is there still and issue?

I've had it for over a year and a half and just never needed it so I've never really noticed that it wasn't working. A bit late for that, I suppose. Oh well, I guess I'll just rotate the devices around. If anyone has any other insight, I suppose, it would be nice, but I have all I need for now.
