So I've found the 8350 for $40 cheaper than the 4690k and was wondering how they stack up to each other? I have to buy a new motherboard if I want either of them, so that won't be taken into account. I was just wondering if the cheaper price tag meant lower performance, or if I should get the 8350?

If you're editing/Multitasking or streaming then the AMD processor will farewell however if you're gaming/Rendering then the I5-4690K will prove to be the better option and also a good Intel Motherboard is typically $30-40 cheaper than a good AM3+ Motherboard for overclocking so the difference will be compensated for.
My choice's intel

Actually the Intel is more than compensated for. For some reason there's some sort of combo with the other stuff in my cart if I get the intel. Guess how much I save with that combo? $40. So it ends up being the same price either way. Probably going with the intel.

and an intel + nvidia build usually consumes less power so you can save money on the PSU as well.
