So recently I purchased a EVGA Geforce GTX 760 to replace my radeon 7770 so I could play so current gen. games on ultra or high. After Installing, some of the current gen. games ran great (such as Battlefield 4, Far Cry 3, ect.) on the new card, but upon checking on some of the old games I played ( like Surgeon Simulator, Chivalry, some parts of Saints Row 3, ect.) it was incredibly laggy and unplayable. Someone recommended that I erased some of the video drivers AMD installed into my computer and that somewhat helped reduce the lag, but it is still there. I cannot tell whether this is a software or hardware problem.
Graphics card:
EVGA Nvidia Geforce GTX 760 Superclocked
Processor:
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 970 Processor Quad-Core 3.5 GHz
System
Windows 7 64-bit

Solution
I would look into an Intel i5 cpu (they are just geared for single threaded apps like games) more then AMD. You would have to buy a new cpu and motherboard. You can also just play your games on lower settings and not spend any money.

open one of the games that lags and set all the in-game video settings to all lowest. (be sure to set resolution to the same as ur Monitor's suggested resolution.) then restart the game and play- on the lowest settings. after a little play and observing, restart the game and set the in-game video settings to max and play.

No my CPU is not overclocked and is there any sort of fix for games that are not supported. How could I avoid this in the future?

I did this and the games only ran smooth on the lowest setting.

In the event that I do buy one, what do I look for in a processor so that the same does not happen?
