So I was approached a few days ago to build a server and install this for a business. And i have very little as far as spec go. But from what I am told it needs to have 24TB storage(Raid 5) which is nothing new on the setup side. Just most servers I have dealt with are Manufactured. I've alos been told I can build it with a 6000 Budget. Would like to be well under that for profit

I think you need to come back when you have a lot more detail. Have you built one before? What currency is your 6,000?

We are definitely going to need more information than that. Is the $6000 including the Server OS? What OS? Windows / Linux / Unix / Solaris, etc. What is this server to be used for? Just a file Server, Domain Controller, Exchange Server, SQL, Oracle, etc. What kind of environment is it going to go into? (Dusty, into a Colo, inhouse Datacenter, etc)

When you're doing up a server for a business, it's quite a different ball park from the standard system at someone's house. Even a high end rig at someone's house wouldn't be in the same ballpark for planning and such as a mission critical system like an all round server.

I manage over 300 Servers (Windows Server 2003 - 2012R2, our Unix Team deals with the Red Hat, and Solaris systems) spread out over 19 countries, in 9 different Data Centres, running in a mixture of vmWare, Hyper-V, and Azure. I can tell you, the amount of detail you put into it right in the beginning is going to save you a lot of frustration, and heart ache in the end.

You said build and install, will you be just be assembling the machine or will you be loading and setting up the server OS as well? if so do you have experience setting up said OS? its a lot trickier then setting up a home OS, especially if the various workstations are not all on the same platform. At my Job each site has a hidge-podge of XP, Win7pro32, win7pro64 and windows 8pro64. and it is a pain in the left toenail. Especially when trying to get things to print for the first time.
