The motherboard is the Asus H81m Plus and apparently it doesnt support some of the xeons functions, this rig is primarily for gaming and I wont be overclocking or need any of those extra features the xeon has

cpu is xeon 1230v3 socket 1150

There isn't any concern for a normal windows user. The extra xeon features are for pro and/or server uses.

in hindsight I think now I may have been happier going with a xeon over this i5 seeing I don't oc any more I now feel it may have been a little more bang for the buck

I got it for the same reason, I will not be overclocking and the 8 threads will definitely help with multi-tasking and when games start to make sure of all the cores. The rig cost me the same as it would have if I had went with the 4690k.. come to think about it, its actually cheaper. Processor has been delivered, waiting on the motherboard/ram/case bundle to arrive so I can put it together and confirm compatibility
