I have been searching like mad for a way that a novice like me can hook up his car amplifier to my home computer and 2 home speakers. I do not have a receiver anymore but have an external hard drive full of music. Can anyone please tell me how I can listen to my music. I have searching for hours and have found nothing that I can understand or that is relevant to my problem. Please be patient with me as I am nothing close to an electrician. I have seen some things where I believe they are opening up the computer, but I would need instructions that would come before that. I think I'm going crazy. Just want my music back. Thanks in advance.

You have a PC, and external drive, and 2 home speakers.

It would be easier/faster/cheaper to either:
Buy a receiver to power the home speakers
or
Buy a set of computer speakers
or
Buy a $5 earbud set at the local drugstore

Yes, you can use a car stereo to do it, but you'll likely spend more money than the above options.
My friend ran his whole car stereo system out of his bedroom after he wrecked his car as a teenager. He just ran it off a car battery and needed to recharge once in a while. Not sure home speakers will be compatible though since they might be different resistances.

I currently use a circa 1990 Sony reciever for my music output from my HTPC. It still sounds great, though it doesn't like to play cassette tapes or CDs anymore. It's hard to find a descent home stereo anymore.
