I am paying for 18Mbps, when I connect my pc directly to the modem, I get 17.56Mbps, after rebooting the router, I get about 10Mbps. then it quickly drops to 2-5 Mbps. this has been going forever, I have bought 3 routers of different brands, I have tried factory reset, firmware is update, changing the mtu size, I have tried every channel. I am out of ideas, please help.

I have tried belkin, tp link and dlink. I am currently on dlink Dir 820l and modem is Thomson 425.

I have experience with that Dlink router, and it is a problem. It has limited range and throughput. I was barely able to get enough bandwidth to stream video on my Sony Bluray player (<3), and my Netis router got me full speed 17-18.

In short, I would dump that router as the first step. I did at least get it to work with Dlink tech support, but the speeds were always slow.

The other end of the equation is the device receiving the signal. Try taking it to a public WiFi area, and running Speedtest to make sure it is working.

On the receiving end, I have 3 PCs, 2 phones, 2 tablets, they are all getting the same slow speed. I think I can rule it out. I am going to try another router.

Wugooey, I am experiencing the same issue as you. My network had ran fine for about 4 years. Nothing changed. Then out of nowhere I have horrible Internet speeds. If I bypass my router, and connect directly to the modem, everything is fine. When I experience the slow speeds, connecting through the router, it is across the board. Land connection, PS3, phones, laptops, everything grinds to a hault. I had a Netgear wireless router that was 4 years old so I threw the blame on that. I am so frustrated with this problem, I researched the crap out of routers and ended up with a $250 Linksys WRT 1903A3 thinking if I made the investment I would be good for sometime. That router lasted about 3 weeks and the problem has returned. There are several people on the forums with this issue and I have yet to find a solution.

Good luck! Please let us know if you get anywhere.
