Will the onboard sound be sufficient for 7.1 headset?

I was recently thinking of purchasing a 7.1 gaming headset and have noticed that many people have suggested getting a sound card to fully experience the 7.1 surround sound (was thinking of maybe going for the Razer Tiamat 7.1, or Steelseries Elite)

My motherboard is the Gigabyte z97 Gaming 7: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128708&cm_re=gigabyte_motherboard_gaming_7-_-13-128-708-_-Product

Just wondering if the onboard sound on this mobo would be enough, and if not could you recommend and good sound cards? Thanks

Pretty much, lol. The ALC 1150 is pretty awesome for an onboard sound processor.

Thanks for the reply, so you're saying that if I'm not satisfied with the onboard audio performance then a $50 to $75 dedicated sound card wouldn't yield any noticeable difference over the ALC 1150? I'm really not interested in purchasing a $150+ sound card lol
