Hey guys, trying to help my gf build a gaming pc and her budget is around $600. Could use some help on deciding what to grab. Also I'd prefer it to be $600 not including mail-in rebate if possible.

Sorry, just to add to that, I'd rather get a CM Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler and get a 270 instead of a 270x. The 270 is the EXACT same thing as a 270x but just with a lower clock speed. If you overclock it just a bit you can get similar performance, but because you got it to that price point, IDK. Though it's okay to stick with the z97 PC mate mobo because it's already pretty good at such a cheap price. Sure, it doesn't support SLI or have the best overclocking components, but it gets the job done and is a wee bit future-proof. It will allow you to crossfire two AMD cards for even more performance (to add the two cards together). I'm a bit on the edge with the CPU, however. 2 cores just doesn't seem to cut it. A lot of games are seeming to use 4 cores now and even more than that. Then again, it's an unlocked CPU and with two cores can reach 4.7 GHz stable at very nice temps. Like max 45 degrees on load.

The extra money could be invested towards an r9 280. that will be REALLY GOOD to have in the system. A CPU and GPU are the two main and first-looked components in a system and an r9 280 will give really good results.

The cm hyper 212 is a decent cooler . Its not as well made or as effective as the Zalman which is currently heavily discounted

The Z97 Mate can not crossfire . It can crossfire X which is not the same thing at all and will severely limit bandwidth to the second slot . Its for basic graphics cards only . If a mb can not SLI it also can not crossfire .

I look fwd to seeing your improved parts list

Oh sorry...I didn't see that. In that case the MSI z97-G55 SLI is the mobo to go. Then again I did some research and found that the Zalman cooler is not bad either. Crossfire happens along with SLI when there are TWO PCI-E x16 3.0 slots. SLI requires a SLI microprocessor as well. Makes sense...
I just liked your build. It seems to have good part choices. I just felt a bit edgy on the mobo and case.
It seems that the person is going to buy locally so website's like newegg won't work (He/she says to exclude MIRs).
