Can someone please help me troubleshoot through this issue I am having!? So what I've done or am trying to do is view the contents of my Dell laptop on my Acer 23in ( i believe ) external LCD monitor, which i have plugged in to an outlet with the cord that has the three female holes that plugs into the back of monitor , and then into the outlet with three male prongs, The model no. is X203H, if anyone needs to know that. So the strange part is this, once all the cords are plugged in and the VGA cord connects the two, i had my laptop running, so then I pressed the power button on the monitor, and it went blue, and said ACEr across the screen, all fine and dandy, and then I even see the contents of my laptop screen up there on the monitor, and then literally like actual clockwork, one second later, the monitor goes black, and the blue light turns a solid amber!..what gives..?? i must have tried this two dozen times, since i thought it was a faulty VGA cord, but the consistant second to blackout would rule out a slighty faulty cord i thought, and besides Ive boughten a new one since first trial, and tonight...same deal.. someones thoughts please...thanksss

Go to Control Panel and under "Appearance and Personalization" there should be an option to "Adjust screen resolution". Click on that and see if both monitors are being detected.

usually there is a function button that needs to be pressed to activate the external monitor. Have you tried this?

the solid amber light means the monitor is sleeping.

Solid amber means the monitor is in sleep. May I ask which Dell laptop you have? Some have a key combination that will provide signal to an external display.

Does the laptop screen work when the monitor goes black? If yes, check the display options and make sure you have the second monitor enabled for use. It may be an issue with the monitor or laptop depending on exactly what happens.
