I recently built a computer and have been getting bad fps on Minecraft and other games, not as good as I would usually get on my alienware laptop. Which is kinda weird considering laptops aren't supposed to be as good, I was guessing it had to do with my graphic card drivers or motherboard drivers? I'm new to all this so I need help checking if my drivers need to be updated since a friend had told me that the disc I had to install drivers was old..

Monitor - Dell st2220l (temp)
Cpu - AMD FX 8350 8-CORE
Gpu - Asus GTX 660 2GB
Motherboard - Asus M597 R2.0
Ram - 16GB
Hard Drive - 500GB
Power Supply - Thermaltake TR2 700W
Case - Fractal design r4

As I said i'm new to this sort of stuff. How can I update to all the new drivers? I need help with this as this is my first build and i'm not really good with computers yet. Is there a way I can update all the drivers at once?

Make sure you have all cores "unparked" on the 8350....you can download utility/core parking or do it manually in registry etc.

and yes updated drivers etc...you should be getting decent performance with a 660

If you have the GPU "ASUS GeForce® GTX 660 DirectCU OC: 1085MHz overclocked, 20% cooler, 3X quieter" then there shouldn't be any issue with your FPS given that you have all other components like RAM,Drivers etc upto date and functioning properly.
you have to check that what OS you use? 32 or 64 bit? win 7? As you know that 32 bit doesnot utilize more than 4GB Ram so it doesnot extended to max utilization of your RAM(16GB as you said).
You need to do provide more details on your RIG with Details on your GPU,MOBO,RAM,HDD. these are only possible factors to look closely.
YOu can try out
> Update drivers on Asus GPU from its panel, Optimized setting for games from the panel option available.check game.
> Go to Game setting. Bring to default settings of the game for play. Mostly that brings your any unwanted/Not correct setting changes you might have done to not really optimized settings in the game. then play. then try taking each level of low-Medium-High-Ultra settings in the GAME options and see what level you can play game with moderate game fps and a smooth transit of movements. Thats your optimized level of rig FOR the particular game.
> Check window index and find which component is lowest ranked. That can give you clue.
> if your system OS is performing for normal task. you might need to little tweak it and clear memories, fragments etc.
>Check if you have any error logs while booting or performing any task. resolve it.
> Check what all applications running in background like MSoffice etc, close all. you dont need them unwanted running in your background.
> Upgrading to 64 bit(Last option)

If you are still up with Issues, please drop more details on the Rig specs.there might be minimal hardware config issue with your OS/Drivers. etc

I'm not sure how to uninstall them, but I have NVIDIA Experiance and that same update came up so I installed it right away. If I have a older version of the driver how do I uninstall it and how would I check for it?

For your CPU's Core utilization/usage etc....windows loves to lock/park cores so some will not run at all....effectively limiting your CPU's performance greatly....

Right you need to go to NVIDIA experience and there is a tab called MY rig. find out your RIg specs mentioned there. 2ndly below then there, there are options like overview game optimization etc. if your game is listed in that then optimize it from there. check then.

coming to your question. if you have checked the settings in gameplay for low-medium-high ultra. whats the good settings you are able to play for a game? please provide input so guys here can figure out better answers for your issue. install CPU-Z from http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html and check all specs for your systems like MOBO,GPU,RAM etc

So i'm guessing that's a bad thing? Is it normal? Should I have all cores running?

I already have CPU-Z Installed from the discs I put in to install drives. Also I have no games I can check it on till tomorrow when I download the higher performance games, right now I only have minecraft and I only get around 100 fps which is not normal. I know this because my laptop can run better and this is supposed to be a better rig.

No its not normal....its okay if you don't do anything very demanding I guess....but gaming yes you need them all running or you are just bottle-necking and with 8350 it would be very noticeable.

if you updated your Drivers from NVIDIA experience, then you dnt need to uninstall older version as while doing so this will automatically do the required things. restart system after installation done

Dude,Minecraft is not the game :p to check your solid systems specs, you gotta test it like, BF3,4 or Assasin creed series, COD series, Crysis. well you can check these by downlaoding any demo game from listed, as of now. if you are not having issues with download limit from your internet provider.

I'm downloading counter strike at the moment but seriously minecraft is a big part of fps to me. I need to fix my fps for minecraft since I record pvp videos on that and it's mainly for that game.
