Michael170,

The first thing I would try since your computer is stuck in a loop is to perform a system restore to an earlier point when the computer was working normally. In order to do this:

a) Insert your Windows 8 installation disc, then click on Repair your system.

b) Click on Advanced Startup Options.

c) Click on Windows Startup Settings.

d) If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.

e) Click on System Restore.

f) Click on the Restore point during which the System was working fine.

g) Click on Apply, then click on OK.

Once your computer finishes restoring, check to see if you can successfully install the updates again. If not, you may try resetting the Windows update components. More...

Once your computer finishes restoring, check to see if you can successfully install the updates again. If not, you may try resetting the Windows update components. More information on that can be found on the How do I reset Windows Update components? page.

Another option is to perform a clean boot in order to see if there are any third party programs that might be causing the issue. More information on performing a clean boot can be found on the How to perform a clean boot in Windows page.

Note: After performing the clean boot troubleshooting steps, refer to the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer to normal startup mode.

I hope this helps!
