OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. P1.50, 7/3/2013
RAM: 8 GB installed (5.79 GB available)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770
Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty H87 Performance ATX LGA1150

Really have no idea what's causing this. Cleaned it out with compressed air less than a week ago, scanned it for viruses (both quick and full scans) with Avast! and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, uninstalled unnecessary applications, checked for performance issues, and ran System Maintenance (on administrator). The only thing I haven't done yet, that I can think of, is reapplied thermal paste, which I have not purchased yet.

I have not overclocked any component in my desktop at all.

In the task manager, click "show tasks from all users" and click the CPU column on the top.
What is taking all the processing power?
I'm guessing its svchost.exe

Wow, never even tried the "All Users" option. It's using around 213,940 K of memory. Right-clicked and selected services, and it's connected to Wlansvc. I'm not having CPU issues at the moment, but they've been pretty constant aside from now. Is that the normal amount of memory it should be using? If not, is there a way to prevent it from hogging all that memory?

Sorry if this is an obvious problem; I got my first computer in April, and I've never had a computer running Windows before. I only have advanced experience with Macs.

Could be a faulty WLAN driver.
Find your wireless make/model, download the updated driver, remove the old one, reboot, install the new one.

Hmmm. That reduced it down to around 115,000 K. Chrome and Firefox seem to be taking up a lot less memory and running faster than usual, too, and I'm not getting any weird CPU spikes.

Thanks so much, never would have figured that out myself.
