Do most R9 290x give problems?

On amazon and newegg, the 290x has terrible ratings. I know the non-reference coolers fixed throttling problems. But people seem to be complaining about black screen, freeze-ups and DOAs. Is that really true? How can so many people have those problems? Don't companies test their cards before selling them? So is it that most 290x give problems or is it that the people who have good cards don't review them. Please enlighten me.

Most cards have faults and they'll be reported. More people report faults than good cards. Look at reviews for a better idea of how well they run. The R9 series initially had problems. But they've gone now.

I think the 290x has too big a price penalty over the 290 to make it worth while. I think the Gigabyte R9 290 is a great price now.

I asked this question because I have a R9 290 Tri-X from Sapphire and it's perfect. It causes me to wonder what these people are complaining about. Is it really true that people mostly give feedback when they have a bad experience? That would change everything for me since I buy solely on those stars on amazon and newegg. So it's just better to research from review sites first then make a purchase?

Well it's not like if I buy a piece of hardware I instantly go spamming online feedbacks that it works well. However if I would buy a piece of hardware that has issues, I would surely toss a couple of nasties here and there.

And my 290X Tri-x works as it supposed to as well.
