Hi all,

I recently purchased my gaming pc with a Gigabyte F2A58M-HD2 mother board. It has 1*PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot for the graphics card. I looked around the box for the specifications and under the spec box, it says "PCI-E 3.0 supported by AMD FM2+ APU's only".

Does that mean that only AMD Graphics Cards are supported? Also, what the hell are FM2 APU's?

Solution
It probably means that you can only use PCI-E 3.0 if you install an APU. Normal CPUs will revert to PCI-E 2.0 or something. It supports Athlon X4 CPUs so, that's probably it.

Whatever the case might be... It will have zero impact on the graphics card you choose. You can install whichever brand/manufacturer you want.
Any discreet video card will work just dandy.

FM2 APUs (Trinity & Richland) have Piledriver CPU cores, 'Turks' GPU cores and PCIe Gen2. FM2+ APUs are the current Kaveri with Steamroller CPU cores, 'GCN' graphics cores and PCIe Gen3.

Rumors have the upcoming FM2+ Carrizo APU, likely arriving in 1H-2015, with Excavator CPU cores with AVX2 and dual DDR3/DDR4 UNB, GCN graphics cores, and PCIe Gen3.

FM2+ motherboards are backward-compatible with FM2 APUs.

Will a Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti be compatible with my motherboard?
