Laptop got hot, currently won't boot

I'm having some seriously frustrating problems with my laptop...

My laptop is a HP Pavilion G6, on Windows 7 Home Premium, and a few months ago it started getting warmer than usual and also started turning itself off (I don't know if this is because of the temperature, or the battery capacity). But yesterday, I was on the internet and it turned itself off, even though it was cold. I powered back on and it got stuck at the 'Starting Windows' splash screen.

After a long wait (about 30 minutes), it was still on the same screen, so I did a force poweroff. It doesn't sound like the brightest thing to do, but it was my only choice to choose different options.

So, I pressed F8 on bootup and tried booting with different options:
1. Last Known Good Configuration
2. Safe Mode (Normal, with Networking and with Command Prompt), and
3. System Repair.
They all brought the same problem. They all froze on bootup.

So I had one last option. I could try HP's built in diagnostic tests, which I did. I never used them before and they looked quite promising. I tried the following tests:
1. Boot Test
2. Memory Test
3. Hard Disk Test
4. Battery Test
In each test I did, my laptop shut itself down, which was a massive disappointment.

I was going to try a fresh install of Windows, but I don't have the Installation Disc, so I'm basically stuck with a defective laptop.

Any help?
Cheers :)

Well don't start with that :)
You need a method to determine if it is indeed the cause.
I think if you look up a service they can help you with that. With or without warranty I see it as the surest solution IF it is an HDD problem.

Wait for other opinions :)

I can't really tell if it's the HDD or not, as all the tests have failed haha

Unfortunately I'm 4 years out of warranty, so I think that it'd be cheaper to buy a new drive rather than send it in for service :)

But we don't know what the problem is here, as it could be RAM as well, but I don't have any POST beeps so I couldn't be so certain.

But wouldn't I have got a HDD faliure message before all these problems occured?

Well if you have no warranty then go to a friend or a local geek or computer repair shop or whatever and ask them to replace the HDD with a working one to see if that solves the problem. And if it does, get a new HDD. Same with the ram, these are easy to replace (not like the GPU or CPU)
Well if your HDD is failing you may or may not receive a warning :D

...or just get a new machine :)

HDD's are inexpensive these days, you can pick up a 1 TB HDD for £90 haha :) I could probably replace the drive myself if that is the problem, same with RAM, a few sticks from Corsair aren't expensive either :)

I doubt it's the CPU as I would receive some other problems, and if the GPU was the problem, it wouldn't display a picture on-screen (I think).

A new machine is my very last resort, although I can get a better machine for about £300 less these days too ;)
