Dear community,

I am upgrading my pc and I am wondering what Z97 motherboard I should get. I live in the Netherlands and my budget is ~€140 max.

Coming upgrades:
-i7 4790k
-scythe mugen max
-r9 290 tri-x sapphire
-crucial ballistix tactical 8gb (cl 8)

Building in an Antec 900. I also already have a seasonic m12ii 850, a HD and a soundcard. I'm playing on 1920x1200 and especially want to get the most out of games. This rig should be future-proof for another ~5 years. Possibly later, when the price of 4k monitors will drop, I want to put in a second GPU, so my motherboard should be able to support that. I also want to overclock the GPU/CPU.

These are my current options:
-Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5
-MSI Z97-GD65 Gaming

The rog m7 ranger was also on my list, but I guess it's overpriced compared to the Gigabyte board?

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts. :wahoo:

The Asus Ranger 7 is on my list of options, but since it is 20€ more expensive than the Gigabyte Gaming 5, I think the latter is a better option. The Asus Hero 7 is 40€ more expensive than the Gigabyte one. What features (except for fancy lights and a reset-switch) would make that board worth 40€ more, if I may ask?

:wahoo:

Hey there.

I really still can't figure out what makes the Hero 7 so good compared to the Ranger 7. When you don't need those extra SATA connectors, have a decent sound card and aren't going to run 3200 MHz RAM, would it be worth the 20€ extra?

I'm on a tight budget for the motherboard, so I really want to spend my money wisely.

Thanks!

It was a suggestion only. Good luck with your upgrade.
