I just bought a Dell 17 5000 series computer. The processor is a I7 quad core and is running at 2.00 GHz. I bought it for reading architectual plans. I need to buy one more laptop. Should I buy the same thing or is there a faster option to download my plans

What program do you use and what is the format of the plan files? As far as download goes, that speed will be entirely dependent on your internet or server speed. If you're talking about access speed when pulling files from storage, opening applications, and opening files within applications, your looking at HDD or SSD speeds as well as your DRAM. Depending on your specific configuration, I believe that comes with 4GB of 1600MHz DRAM, and some of them come with solid state drives - is this accurate for your build?

Quick bid or on Screen takeoff is the program. The files are OST. My build for my computer is 8gb single channel ddr3 1600mhz

Looking at the program specs and file types, the Dell you bought should be plenty fast, but you can say better than I if you've tried it out. The only thing that would give you a noticeable speed boost is adding a solid state drive if it didn't come with one.
