is a 1866 mhz stick able to run with a 1600 mhz stick

I built my computer with a single 4gb stick of 1600 mhz ram, and have since wanted to upgrade. I wanted to know if getting two 1866 mhz sticks would be compatible with what i have, and whether they would be limited to running at only 1600 mhz even if they are in a different channel

They can't i don't think, the speeds need to be the same, it's safer to get the same kit you got for your origional ram kits

It can work. You'll need to manually adjust the timings and frequencies. It's more work than just buying identical sticks or just replacing the kit entirely.

If you can lower the 1866 MT/s sticks to 1600 MT/s and get the timings to match up with the other stick they might work if you're lucky. You're probably best off going with what legend said and getting the same kit or just replacing your old ram all together with the 1866 kit.
