hey all,

i am currently confused between i7 4770 and i7 4770K.
i am building a gaming machine but at the same time i am not a overclocking fan. i will be playing lot of games but really not that much that i would be overclocking it. i have read that i4770K is good if you plan to overclock the CPU.
help! (i have budget constraints and thats why would prefer the non K)

here's the config.

i7 4770/i7 4770K
Asus z87 A
Kingston Hyper X 16GB
XFX R9 280X DDR5

Since you're not overclocking, the H87 would be fine.

The Xeon 1230v3 (or 1231v3) is a very good alternative to the i7 4770. It is essentially the i7 4770 without an iGPU (which is disabled anyway when you use a dedicated video card) and minus a few hundred MHz (negligible difference). I see almost no reason to get the i7 4770 over the Xeon. WoodenSaucer mentioned this earlier also.
If you're not overclocking then get the i7 4770. If you are, get the 4770k. That's the only important difference between them.

Z series motherboards are also intended for overclocking, so if you want to save some money you could get a H series motherboard instead. Additionally the i5 4670/4690 would perform identically to the i7 4770 in most gaming situations.
