I recently purchased a WD Green 4TB HDD with the intention of installing ubuntu and windows in dual boot and using the rest of the drive as media storage. The drive was not showing in device manager, disk manager, bios, windows explorer, or on a gparted and ubuntu cd's. Is there something I need to do for the computer to recognize it?

I've tried it in two computers, but it was not recognized as being plugged in. The first computer was an old dell optiplex 560, which is running dual core 32bit, 4gb ram, windows xp and ubuntu 14.04 (tried with both operating systems).

The second computer is my gaming rig (i5 4690k, 8gb ram, gtx670, two other hard drives, and windows 8.1 64bit). Ran into the same problem here. Tried viewing the manufacturer's website for drivers and faq's, but had no luck. Thought I might ask here before shipping it back for a replacement.

yes, all of these seemed to refer to drive that have already been detected or just needed initialized. I couldn't even get that far. I'm trying to find some new drivers that might fix the problem. If that doesn't work i'll ship it back for a replacement, unless someone else can figure out what's going on.

also check your motherboard BIOS for an update... the SATA ports firmware may not support the large drives.
