I bought a new motherboard/cpu because when I installed my old motherboard (also new, my actual old motherboard was shorted out) it blew up and damaged itself and the cpu installed in it. I breadboarded the rest of the components and my diagnosis concluded that the cpu was already damaged and blew up the motherboard. Today the motherboard/cpu arrived and I breadboarded it with the NZXT Kraken X61. Something blew, because sparks flew from the topside of the cpu cooler and you could hear a loud pop. Very similar to what happened with my old motherboard. Hmmm. Could it be the cooler? So I uninstalled the kraken cooler and installed the stock intel cooler. I try again and it boots. POST screen displays, happy times. But then what did that spark/pop signify? What was damaged? How did the spark/pop even occur? I only changed out the cooler. I installed the water cooler correctly. I looked over the instructions again just to make sure before I turned it on. I'm utterly perplexed. Can someone shed some light?

Did you see any loose eletrical wires from the x61. did the psu touch anything or is any part touching the case. Also did you add static electrity to the mobo.

No, I grounded myself numerous times. No, I checked and made sure nothing touched the MOBO. It wasn't even in the case, I breadboarded.
