Disappearing Hard Drive

Here's my issue. I recently built a new pc. I have three hard drives installed. One is a new Samsung 840 Evo that recently had Windows 7 installed. Another is a Toshiba MK3252GSX that was recovered from my dead laptop. The Toshiba is still running the laptop's Windows 7. The third hard drive is an old Maxtor 6V160E0 that I was intending to use as a data drive.

I am able to boot into the old Windows 7 on the Toshiba. While there I can see the Maxtor and interact with it. I was able to pull off data and format it. However, when booting into my intended primary (and eventually only) version of 7 on the Samsung, the drive will show up and then disappear shortly after.

I've updated the bios. I've tried reseating the cables and moving the hdd in question to another sata port. I've removed the jumper that was on the drive so that it should be able to achieve full Sata 2 speeds.

I'm trying to get this drive up and running so I can pull things off the toshiba before removing windows and formatting that. Eventually I intend to run 7 only off of the Samsung and have the other two drive as storage. I'm really at a loss on this one and figured I would ask here as a last ditch effort before giving up. Thanks for any and all help.

Solution
That maxtor is an 8+ year old model. Having problems only when booting from the SSD are likely coincidental.
The drive is in the early stages of failure most likely.
