Suggestions for a single core cpu that I could buy (second hand probably?) - either AMD AM3 or Intel LGA775

I have a choice of 2 older systems that I could use as an Unreal Tournament rig, and I'd like to do that if possible! I just need to get my hands on a single core cpu and I have no idea what to look for. I have the choice of Socket LGA775 or Socket AM3. Is this possible?

In case you're curious, Unreal Tournament won't run 100% smoothly on modern systems due to it not understanding multiple cores. I've tried everything and the results aren't satisfactory enough since this is my all time favorite pc game :(

Thanks!

I had a problem like that in silent hill 2 and worked doing that.

I've tried everything. I've disabled cool n quiet in the bios, I've set affinity to one core, I've tried modified ini's, different opengl dll's, set frame rate limits etc.

I'm not getting the horrendous high fps/low fps problem that many people report when using modern systems but something about he frame rate just isn't right. It's a bit jerky and just not smooth like it needs to be or used to be back in the day. Direct3d works better in that regard but the issue there is mouse lag. There's a tiny delay between me moving the mouse and the cross hair moving. Sounds negligible but in a fast paced game like this its unbearable especially when I don't get this issue in opengl. With I could combine the two to have the best of both worlds :(
