2.1 or 5.1 system?

Im about to finish my build and im looking for a decent audio system. Ive got my headset for gaming, so ill be using new speakers for music and movies. Ive got z97 asrock extreme4 mobo with realtek1150. Im looking for clear and crisp sound. A decent bass would be great too. I listen to rock/metal music, watch blurays and dvds. Im from united kingdom, so some of the stuff which you can get in us is not available here.
I would like to keep my budget below £100, unless there is something that will blow my mind away.

I'd go 2.0 or 2.1 in that price range, since those sets usually have better sound quality than 5.1 sets. It only makes sense to get a 5.1 set if you watch tons of movies.

I do watch alot of movies, but music is number one. What would you recommend for 5.1 system? Even if i have to spend more.

I've never owned a 5.1 set meant for PCs (I've used several), but as far as sound quality goes, Logitech and Creative are the best ones I've listened to: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/logitech-speakers-980000430
If music truly is number one, stick with that 2.0 system, and add a second pair of 2.0 speakers to create a 4.0 surround sound system if you really want to have surround sound.

Well it depends on your budget firstly. Also, I watch a lot of movies as well blu rays on my computer specifically. I would say that if you are going to want surround sound 5.1 or 7.1 is the way to go if you go with 2.1 that is fine to but you wont have a very good surround setup.

How is realtek 1150 going to work with high end speakers? I am able to push my budget up to £150...or wait 2-3weeks and push it up to 300-400

Realtek 1150 is good, it should work well with high-end speakers.

You know I really don't know. I have pretty good onboard with my ASUS Z97 Hero but I use a ASUS essence STX which is a pretty boss sound card. In terms of speakers I'd want a sound card. After watching this video I feel like the onboard is garbage.
