I recently did a custom build and since i got it up and running, i have been experiencing crashes frequenty while running certain programs. my first thought was an incorrect driver. Here is my custom build information.

cpu: AMD FX-9590 Vishera 8-Core 4.7GHz Socket AM3+ 220W Desktop Processor
mobo: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard with 3-Way
memory (x2): G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9S-8GBXL
gpu: Asus R9 280x
ssd (with os): SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
hd: WD black caviar 7200rpm 1TB (for files and larger games installed)
cpu heatsink: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_RD Dual 120mm PWM CPU Cooler
PSU: LEPA MaxBron B1000-MB 1000W ATX CrossFire 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

It has never crashed while i use smaller programs but when i use programs like battlefield 4, titanfall, ableton live 9, photoshop, and even watching movies on chrome. 99 percent of the time the computer just freezes completely making me put it into force shutdown. Other times it will just crash and give me a blue screens such as:

- IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
- DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
- DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER
- SYSTEM_THRED_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (atikmdag.sys)

Im not sure what to do next. dont know how to get to the crash reports as well. any help would be greatly appreciated.

what temps are the cpu hitting? make sure the thermal paste is on good and the heatsink is tight.

Yeah that CPU is known for getting really hot. What is your CPU Cooler?

i listed my heat sink. it has two fans attached to it. i have monitored the temp through cpu z and it never gets over 70 while playing most games on high graphics and i almost never get artifacts or low fps while im playing. i dont think its a heat issue. my nzxt case also has 4 fans that came with it. really dont think heat is an issue. i could be wrong though.

Possibility 1: It could be a driver issue; the stop codes said something about drivers. Can you revert your graphics drivers to a previous version? If you haven't updated them in a while, update them. Check Windows Update in Control panel and see if any drivers need updating.

If (or when) you have another blue screen, take of the side panel of the PC and look at the motherboard. Check the upper-right hand corner of the mobo, and there will be lit-up numbers or letters. These are troubleshooting / error codes that help in situations like yours. Write down the code that is displayed, and consult the motherboard's manual (this is why you should always keep them handy) where it should provide a list of the error codes and the errors that they represent. This could help you narrow down the issue.

Check this link, which could help you restore Windows to a previous state where no issues were apparent

Possibility 2: Malware / Virus: It could be a virus, and your PC blue-screened to prevent it from being damaged. Uninstall any programs that seem suspicious to you and check what is running in Task Manager. DO NOT install any anti-virus programs because that could make things even worse.

I hope this helps!

windows says my drivers are all up to date. i have never had to update any since this machine is so new. i have only had it for a couple months now. plus the freezing has happened frequently since i got it. at least a couple times a day. depending how much i use it. im just running win 8.1 defender and its firewall stuff. it seems to work pretty well. been using win 8 for a couple years now and never had a virus.
