Hi there!

First and foremost im new in the forum, english is not my natural language, so forgive me for any mistakes i make. So lets start!

Why does it has to be on DP35DP?

Well, several years ago my family and i built some pc's (around 6) for personal use, all of them in that motherboard. Now i wanted to build a new one for myself, but everyone seems interested in upgrading their computers too. So i wanted to know what would be the "best" components that motherboard can support. This is more a matter of compatibility rather than a budget.

So lets start with the template i saw in How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice

Approximate Purchase Date: Within 2 months

Budget Range: As i said, its not a matter of budget, its a matter of compatibility. What would be the best components this motherboard can support?

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, watching movies, work, design. (As they are 6 different computers, everyone uses them for several purposes)

Are you buying a monitor: Probably, since the actual is already not displaying the optimal resolution. The current one for almost all pc's is Viewsonic Optiquest Q191wb

Parts:

Motherboard: Intel® Desktop Board DP35DP (This cannot be changed)

CPU: Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9650
(12M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)

As far as i know this is the best cpu that motherboard can handle (with bios upgrades).

CPU Cooler: The one that comes with the cpu (or do i need to buy another one?)

Memory: Well i know the board can have max 8GB DDR2 800 or 667. So it will have to be 4x2 GB DDR2-800 Memory. Recommendation on the brand? Is there a better memory i can use with this motherboard?

Storage: Could the board and the cpu handle SSD's? For what ive read as long as the board has SATA, it can. Would you recommend it? and if you do, wich one should i buy? Ive read Samsung has the bests ssd's, or would it be better to have one ssd for boot and one hdd for other stuff?. The capacity would have to be at least 1TB

Video Card: Well here is where i get all confused. Ive read i can use any PCIe 3.0 card on a PCIe 1.0, although it wont have the speed it should have. So theoretically i can use a Geforce Titan Black in this board?
What would be the best graphic card i could use with this setup without under using it?

Case: It will be the same (unless de psu doesnt fit)

Power Supply: Wich one should i get? I was thinking 500W 80+Bronce certified of what brand? I definitely need to change this since the current PSU doesnt have 6 pin nor 8 pin connector.

Optical Drive: Pioneer DVD-RW DVDR-112D I think i can upgrade this too right? What would you recommend?

Do you need to buy OS: No

Parts Preferences: Just the best for this motherboard.

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1440x900 is the actual resolution, but i would like to see movies on my 40-inch TV.

Additional Comments: I dont think i have more comments

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Well as i said, theres a lot of pc's my family uses with that specific motherboard, so i would like to know what is the best pc i can build from it.

If you need more information just tell me.
Thanks, i appreciate any help i can get.

well alrighty. so you pretty much have the best cpu, the xeon will not be an upgrade. so no change there
you dont need a new cpu cooler
memory wise good brands are: Adata, corsair, crucial, hynix, kingston, G. Skill, Mushkin, patriot, just to name a few
Best SSD? i recommend the Samsung 850 Evo 1TB since you want a terabyte. it will run slower on your computer becaues it is a 3GB sata connection not a 6GB.

Best Graphic card? please dont put a titan in there....lmao. i would go with a GTX 750TI. low power requirements and a lot of bang for buck for standard 1080p gaming. about the most i would put in a system like that that could handle it.

for power supplies i like this one...

If you are able to still able to acquire LGA775 processors and DDR2 memory, your information looks pretty solid. However, Intel does not manufacture any LGA775 processors since they have been end of life'd, and DDR2 RAM is expensive due to the lack of demand, if available at all.

you want to try overclocking? i wouldn't do it on that board as you ownt have very much voltage and multiplier control but if you are going to attempt you need a better cpu cooler than stock. so if you choose to buy this heatsink

just thought about it for your memory you want 8gb so 4 of the 2gb modules, prolly should look on ebay make sure you get non ecc, and get 2 of the 4gb (2x2gb) modules. might have to mix and match manufacturers but you are dealing with some old ass memory lol.

edit

oh yeah forgot if you get a SSD you might also want a mechanical storage drive to store your data how's 2TB sound?

Nice, thx thats what ive been looking for. I would like to see some more opinions though.
P.S. I would like to keep the components i buy for the next pc i build too, so thats why i want the "best" this can handle so i can use it in a not too distant future. (I know that wont be the case for the cpu and the memory )
